One of my best friends lives in Kyoto so whenever I take a trip to Japan, I try to make a stop if I can. After a haircut with my go to stylist, my friend and I headed to a cafe restaurant in Nijyo. I had been eyeing this place (a small chain with 3-4 other locations) since I had seen it in on TV several years ago. They are famous for souffle type pancakes. It was lunch time so my friend and I shared an oyakodon and the seasonal pumpkin pancake. For the pancake, you can choose the pancake base – original, condensed milk, matcha, and something else. We went with the condensed milk since it seemed like a good match with the pumpkin cream. The cafe was in a renovated machiya and more spacious than expected. The food was good too although slightly pricey.
